The age of legends, part of China's rich mythology, provides insights into the social outlook and development of ancient China.
夏

Xia Dynasty

ca. 2100–1600 B.C

The Xia Dynasty (2070-1600 B.C.), China's first hereditary dynasty, united tribal alliances under the Xia tribe and became synonymous with terms like "Huaxia" and "Zhuxia" for China.

Shang Dynasty

ca. 1600–ca. 1050 B.C.

The Shang Dynasty (1600-1100 B.C.) introduced written records, using oracle bones and bronze inscriptions to create the earliest Chinese characters. It established a bureaucratic government, permanent army, and advanced handicraft industry.

Zhou Dynasty

ca. 1050–256 B.C.

The Zhou Dynasty (1100-256 B.C.) had two periods: Western and Eastern. It used feudalism and influenced Chinese culture. The Eastern Zhou had two sub-periods: Spring and Autumn and Warring States.

Qin Dynasty

221–206 B.C.

The Qin Dynasty (221-207 B.C.) reformed and unified China. It followed Legalism and was very strong. It left the famous terracotta army as a world heritage.
漢

Han Dynasty

206 B.C.–220 A.D.

The influential Han Dynasty (202 B.C.-220 A.D.) united the Yellow and Yangtze River Basins, establishing the emperor's year name and promoting Confucian culture. It witnessed significant technological advancements like papermaking and gave rise to terms like "Han people" and "Hanzi" (Chinese characters).

Three Kingdoms period

220–280 A.D.

The Three Kingdoms period (220 to 280 A.D.) was a chaotic period of civil wars in history, and the three major powers of Wei, Shu, and Wu formed a tripartite force.
